Jeffco ARts and Jeffco Arts Shows
Visual and Performing arts education plays an integral role in the Jeffco K-12 curriculum, promoting creativity, cognitive development, emotional intelligence, and vital life skills. It also contributes to a well-rounded education that prepares students for personal and professional success while fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts and culture.
Jeffco Schools Foundation recognizes the importance of creative arts programming and strives to ensure every Jeffco student is impacted by its benefits. As well as providing substantial grants for music, theatre, and visual arts, Jeffco Schools Foundation is honored to fund Jeffco Public Schools student artists in the annual Jeffco art shows. |
Special thanks and recognition go to our forever Jeffco Arts Heroes, Joe & Betty Wetherbee (pictured), for their enduring legacy of investment in Jeffco Arts through the 'Betty & Joe Wetherbee Fund for Music and Arts.'
Music
A fundamental part of Jeffco's core curriculum, Music Education provides students with unique experiences and skills essential for success in the 21st century workforce. Students are provided instruction in all aspects of music: singing, playing, moving, reading, listening, analyzing, creating, and performing. Courses in Elementary General Music, Band, Orchestra, Choir and non-performing electives are offered throughout the district.
"Arts Education programs should be grounded in rigorous instruction, provide meaningful assessment of academic progress and performance, and take their place within a structure of direct accountability to school officials, parents, and the community. In-school programs that are fully integrated into state and local curricula afford the best potential for achieving these ends." (National Association for Music Education).

Theatre
Theatre Arts is an integral part of what Jeffco Schools offers. Jeffco Theatre is aligned with Colorado Academic Standards, offerings in our schools include acting, stagecraft, improvisation, musical theatre, unified theatre and more.
Theatre imparts vital life lessons - pursuit of excellence, collaborative creativity, adaptable problem-solving, effective communication, resilience, enhanced empathy, and self-awareness. It fosters social emotional learning, providing a safe space for students to explore and express their emotions.
The goal is to create access for all students not just in classrooms but also at events like the Jeffco Theatre Festival and Jeffco Improv Festival, celebrating diversity and inclusivity. Theatre in Jeffco equips students with skills for life, promoting adaptability, creativity, effective teamwork, and the ability to express oneself with confidence. It nurtures well-rounded individuals who are prepared for a world that values both individuality and community.

jeffco costume connection
The Jeffco Costume Connection is an educational theater resource available to all students, educators, and families in Jeffco. All costumes are free to check out, much like a library. The Costume Connection is filled with costumes, clothing, and special event wear (for special occasions like graduation or prom, or even Halloween!)
The Costume Connection provides no-cost lending of outfits to Jeffco students and schools, including theater productions, individual family requests for special clothing loans, and more. School staff, parents, and students can go to the Costume Connection and select items to "check-out" and then return at no cost. This is a volunteer-led effort, supported by the Jeffco Schools Foundation and Jeffco Public Schools. |
visual arts
Visual Arts programs are vital in the education offered at every K-12 Jeffco public school. Jeffco Visual Arts deliver high quality instruction, emphasizing a balance of studio art (creating), critique and analysis, and art history. The curriculum students receive is based on the Colorado Academic Standards, aligns with Jeffco instructional excellence efforts, and is a large part of the extraordinary student experience.
Visual Arts are essential; whether drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, digital media, jewelry, sculpture, or ceramics. They teach students innumerable lessons, such as practice makes perfect, small differences can have large effects, and collaboration leads to creativity. Visual arts also teach students that creative problem solving can have value in all areas of life and that all problems can have more than one solution. |
